What Is Fuel Dilution?
Fuel dilution occurs when unburned diesel fuel enters the engine oil, reducing oil viscosity and lubricating effectiveness. Common causes include frequent DPF regeneration cycles (which inject extra fuel), short trip driving, and poor combustion. Fuel dilution accelerates engine wear and shortens oil change intervals. Combustion catalyst additives reduce fuel dilution by promoting more complete combustion, meaning less unburned fuel washes past piston rings.
