What Is HFRR Test?
The HFRR test is the standard laboratory method for measuring diesel fuel lubricity. It measures the wear scar diameter (in microns) left by a steel ball oscillating against a steel plate submerged in fuel. A smaller wear scar means better lubricity. The ASTM D6079 standard requires a wear scar of 520 microns or less. Quality lubricity additives like Fuel Ox can reduce wear scars to 300-400 microns, significantly extending fuel system life.
